Is my wireless adapter falling back on using the firmware-4.bin when it doesn't find firmware-5.bin? My wireless adapter is the Killer 1535 802.11ac on the new Razer Blade Stealth 2016 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Kernel 4.8.12 How reproducible: Hardware dependent, but if you boot with the new kernel and have the same wireless adapter as me, you most likely are ...

However, the wireless works perfectly fine, so I'm not sure if this file maybe shouldn't be loaded in the first place or if the log message should be downgraded to info. I tried copying the firmware-5.bin from the hw2.1 directory but then the driver fails to load completely. Hardware (from lspci): 02:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 32 ...

Is there an actual (or will there be an actual) firmware-5.bin file for hw3.0 or was that a mistake in the code? What could be causing the huge drop of the 5Ghz for this card? UPDATE: Using 17.04 the Wireless card is worse now. I have a 100Mbit internet connection and now it simply lags all the time. Every minute to 2 minutes the whole wireless ...

 · ath10k-firmware. These are the latest firmware files for ath10k, a mac80211 driver for QCA988x, QCA6174, QCA99XX and similar. The official location to download ath10k images is from linux-firmware:

 · Your hardware probes for the latest firmware, which isn't present in the current linux-firmware package, and then falls back to an older one which is there.

You only needed to rename the firmware-4.bin file from the hw3.0 directory as your chipset doesn't use anything from hw2.1 Kalle recently upstreamed the ath10k firmware to linux-firmware so hopefully it won't take Ubuntu much longer to include the changes – Jeremy31 May 11 '16 at 21:54

Binary firmware for Atheros wireless cards. This package contains the binary firmware for USB wireless network and Bluetooth cards supported by the ar5523, ath3k, ath6kl_sdio, ath6kl_usb, ath9k_htc, ath10k, or wilc6210 drivers.

I haven't had a problem with my ath10k in quite some time, even though linux-firmware pacman upgrades have clobbered my firmware-6.bin file, downgrading it to WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00140-QCARMSWPZ-1 at the time of writing. If it is the case that linux-firmware contains sufficiently up-to-date firmware now, what do people think of removing these instructions?
